As summer changes to fall many of us begin to dread winter and the cold days that are ahead. As we begin the seasonal tasks of winterization, we wonder and worry if there will be winter storms to deal with that result in icy road conditions and power outages. Our dread and gloom grows as the leaves change from green to the beautiful colors of autumn and then fall to the earth as if to form a blanket that protects the ground through the winter.
But in November spirits seem to begin brightening as the holiday season approaches. We celebrate Thanksgiving and then we get into the festivities of Christmas. Decorating, shopping, and Santa Claus are the themes of the season!
Parents everywhere are busy trying to make the holiday special for their kids. But sometimes it seems that in the mix and chaos of preparations, the children get less quality time with their parents. Children may be left with sitters or on their own while the adults are shopping, baking and decorating in an effort to make Christmas more amazing than ever. Ironically, the children may be feeling left out during this time.
Fortunately there are easy ways to focus some time on your children that not only makes them feel important – it can create a treasured family tradition. The simple task of writing a Santa Claus Letter with your children can result in a bonding time that provides an opportunity for kids to express themselves while building their anticipation for the holiday.
Why not make this a time that the entire family looks forward to by constructing an afternoon around the activity. A good idea is to work on some decorative craft projects before or after writing the Christmas letter and to include some joyous Christmas music. After the letters to Santa are complete and mailed, your children will anxiously wait for the mail carrier to deliver their letter from the North Pole.
